Phonex the Macaw

Hi Everyone

I thought today I would bring you a picture of a piece that I put together for my Son.

My son and his partner purchased a baby Macaw for the family.

Over the time they had Phonex the bird lost a number of tail feathers - which is part of the normal yearly mating of the Macaw's.  My son knew that as part of my craft obsession I collect such things as feathers so therefore passed all these beautiful feathers on to me.

Also, I regularly take my grandson to cricket on Saturday mornings and while there, much to my grandsons embarrassment, I collected dried twigs and little nut casings from the gum nut tree.

Due to illness within the family they decided it was unfair for for the bird to keep it as they could not give it the attention it needed. So they decided they would sell the bird to someone who could spend good quality time with it.

As a reminder gift I created this lovely bright art piece using the colours from the bird.  I love how the yellows, oranges and blues all blend well, with the use of the feathers and the twigs I picked up it all comes together nicely. I also used some chipboard leaves and flowers that I had in my stash to blend into the background and give the canvas a little bit of texture.

The paints that I used were from Prima Marketing - Art Alchemy Metallique Acrylic Paint in Royal Blue, Yellow and Orange.

Today, while sitting quietly preparing for the new year I decided I would look at some of the Mixed Media Challenges that were currently open and came across the
Mixed Media Academy - December 2021 challenge.

I do hope you all like the wonderful piece of Phonex the Macaw .....

Christmas Decorations

This year I decided that I would make Christmas decorations to give to friends.

I loved making these little gems with everyone made specifically for the person who received them.

They started off as a plastic reindeer I purchased online.

I then added a few little embellishments to the reindeer and then painted them with gesso. The embellishments I used included wings, cogs and flowers made with Finnabair Prima moulds and other assorted embellishments from Finnabair and little pieces I have picked up in my travels.

Once decorated the reindeer where painted in either white or black gesso. The reindeer are then coloured with Prima Finnabair Waxes.

Then to give each reindeer a little bit of bling I painted each one with Glitter.

These little beauties look enchanting on the Christmas tree

Mist, Haze or Through a Veil

This is one of the two creations I have created following the Mood-board from Art Daily Cafe for April 2021.

After a few weeks of running around for my grand-daughter and then helping my daughter at the Baby & Toddler Show I was really lucky to be able to have five full days in my craft room.

I loved the colours and the textures of the mood board so much that I just jumped straight in and created the page below using vellum, netting and some beautiful 49 & Market flowers and feathers.
The back ground is textured with a variety of different templates, stamps and glass beads.

The large butterfly was firstly stamped on vellum and then cut out.

Mist, Haze or Through a Veil with the beautiful colour of Smokey Blue.

On Easter Sunday I got up really early (4am) to join Finnabair on Patreon in a live chat on Studio Tips: Video Setup and was lucky to also have a guided tour around her beautiful craft room.
This then motivated me to spend some time sorting out and tidying up my craft room - I even labeled boxes so I don't have to open everyone to find the think I want.
I am hoping that my room might stay tidy up for a little while - I can only dream.

After all the great work sorting things out I found my stamps of leaves and had a great idea of doing another layout for the mood board.

This one I used a lot of additional techniques such as
  • stencil using moulding paste
  • embossing powder to cover some chipboard
  • stamping leave patterns onto vellum and cut out
  • fine netting to cover the photo
  • skeleton leaves for the background

Breaking The Rules

I found the Mood Board from Art Daily Craft a little harder this month as these are not the usual colours that I work with - but I thought about it I decided the best idea was to pay my respect to my mother and her parents and two brothers.  Growing ups I was taught you Did Not Break The Rules but now following Finnabair and her classes through Patreon I have learnt that in art it is ok to Break The Rules and try something different.

I used a variety of products and textures while making this page and have listed them below

Thank you for checking out my blog and I hope to see you soon.

Nothing Exists Without Its Opposite

Hi Everyone

I just loved the Art Daily Cafe February 2021 Mood Board - the deep reds, the contrast and the elegance of the board.

Below is my creation from the wonderful February Moodboard.
I found this beautiful photo of an elegant lady and through Photoshop coloured her lips that deep rich red.
I then used the contrast colours of red, black and the background white to put together this creation. The background textures and the use of feathers, die cut shapes and flowers both purchased and home made (to match the background red) has highlighted the elegant photo.

Hope this has been a little bit of inspiration for you all
Happy Crafting

Welcome to 2021 and Change of Name

Welcome to 2021

 Hi Everyone

It has been quite a while since I have added anything to this BLOG, 2020 was a long tough year with COVID-19 has touching everyones lives around the world in one way or another, some more than others.  I would like to wish you all a safe wonderful and creative 2021.

Over the past 12 months I lost my mojo in relation Scrapbooking - family has taken  centre stage for the past two years but more so over the last six months.

To try and try and get my enthusiasm back I started watching YouTube and over the last three months I have rediscovered my Art again - Thanks to the wonderful Anna Finnabair Dabrowska (or as most of you know her by Finnabair)  and her classes both on YouTube and also through the wonderful Patreon site.

Although I initially started watching Finnabair's classes on YouTube I joined Finnabair's Facebook page and through this discovered that she has a Patreon page.  I pay a small amount each month and with this I am able to attend her classes online, receive discount coupons, find out about new products prior to release and get invited to the online parties.  The New Year Eve party was fun and very enlightening - even if I did attend it early the next morning because of the time difference.

I also get notifications about other Facebook classes that she does such as the one that I watched the other day at 5am.  Although I will not decorate a Lamp myself I did pick up some really great tips and ideas. 😀

As part of my new enthusiasm I have also changed the name of this blog to reflect my new direction I am wanting to continue in.  - The new name is now 'Glenda's Creations'.

Since I started watching these classes I have started decorating book covers and have a couple of examples below.

This was the first book I did and I think the best so far - I took it to work and duly sold it to one of the lovely ladies at work for her Mother.

I then went on to make a selection of little books that I did for those little presents for friends at Christmas.

I enjoyed making this book as I was making it for a colleague who lives in another State and has worked and looked after her children during the continued COVID-19 lockdown.

I do hope you might be able to find some inspiration from these books.
